A Modern Kitchen with a Colorful Twist

Designers Carey Maloney and Hermes Mallea created a vibrant kitchen in a New York townhouse. Whether it's the brass pot rack, the green cabinets, or the burgundy stove, browse through the pictures and photos for ideas for color schemes. For more details read the complete interview with the designers.

The Right Touch of Brass

Gleaming enameled steel cabinets and a nine-foot-long polished brass pot

rack, both by La Cornue brighten up a basement kitchen in a 19th-century New York town house. Designer Carey Maloney of M Group chose Waterworks' Easton faucet for its "turn-of-the-last-century look" and concealed a Gaggenau dishwasher behind a custom La Cornue panel. Cabinets were installed by St. Charles of New York, a boutique kitchen firm. Samode rug from ABC Carpet & Home.

A Moroccan Touch

Ann Sacks Medina tile on the backsplash is handmade by Moroccan mosaic artisans using centuries-old techniques.

Bold and Sleek

The cabinets pick up the veining in the countertops, making the marble appear greener.

Amazing Shades

The glass tile has multiple shades of green.

Limed Oak

Limed-oak cabinetry was designed by M Group: "There’s a flatness to the look of the oak that helps the kitchen feel more modern."

A Show-Stopping Stove

The Burgundy La Cornue Chateau 150 range is the kitchen's focal point and showstopper. "Everything else recedes into the background," Maloney says. "I mean look at that stove doing its thing—you don't need any more statements."
